Do You to the Nth Power!

But will you just give up everything? Are you willing to do it? Do you see yourself taking the plunge into your destiny? Beginning the journey into the unknown. Trusting your gut and everything affiliated with it. The only thing you know is what moves you, what drives you, and what you see when your eyes are closed. That's when the wonderland, the circus, and the music starts. What do you see when your eyes are closed? The visions, the joy, and the laughter. It's all there.

What do you see when your eyes are closed? Try it if you haven't already. Although, I'm sure you have. You may have been in the middle of a business meeting. Your inner self began reminding you of the long lost business that you have forgotten. Okay, so you got the DBA, then what. Try it. You may have been sitting at the dinner table with your spouse and you began to remember when. Try it. You saw him but, why didn’t you say anything to him? I know you were trying to be all hard and stuff. Do you not see? There isn't any room in this life to be hard, guarded, or protected. They say, "Do you." I say, “Do you” to the nth power! Nth being absolutely freaking infinite. If you get nothing else from today’s post. Get this. Do you to the absolute freaking nth power!

Life

Life. You never cease to amaze me. You are so full of surprises. We go round and round at times. Yet, you always tend to win. I try to take the lead and go in the direction that I feel is best. But, you pull me right back. Life. You are my friend. We are together through thick and thin. You’ve been good to me. You’ve also been not so nice. One thing for sure, I’m always happy to see you. When I wake up and open my eyes. Yes, I’m happy to see you! I’ve been there when you have chosen to exit. I still have some questions about that...I know, I have no choice but to wait for my answers. I‘m happy to see you no matter how you greet me. I cherish you when I hear of others relationship with you. Our relationship is pretty fancy at times.

Remember when I was at the dog park and you dropped off a nice little surprise? Ha, that was quite a treat. How do you know what I like and don’t like? How do you know what I can take and what storm I can weather? Life you are something else. We’ve been together so long and you still manage to surprise me. I love the surprises. They cause me to laugh out loud in the midst of LA traffic. They cause me to rock out as if I have never heard that song before. They cause me to smile in pure bewilderment. They cause me to bend with tears coming from the pure place where all emotions come from. Life. You’re okay with me. As a matter fact, you’re absolutely alright with me. Let’s continue our journey together. For we have come this far and I’m still in the game. You have gifted me with joy, peace, and happiness. Let’s continue our journey.

You came and gifted us, your love it lifted us higher and higher. The Commodores "Nightshift"

NYC and Why I Heart You

3:02 am...So quiet. Why do I feel as though my body is on East Coast time. No idea why. I haven't been to NYC since Fall 2009. But, I wake up bright and early at 3 am. My dream ended so abruptly as if it was like, "okay it's been fun, now it's time to wake up." How awesome it is for your body to determine it's time to start a new day. No alarm clock needed. I like that. I'm pretty sure I have two different coasts within me.

New York...New York and why I heart you. You speak liberation to me. You speak rhythm to me. You yell freedom to me. I once knew you. You were a breath of fresh air to my southern ways. You move differently. Never missing a beat. I got your number as soon as I seen the bright lights. I cried and laughed with you. You freed me from myself, when I didn't know I needed freeing. You kept me when I needed to be kept. You revived me, when everyone else had forgotten. You showed me art through classical music. You brought someone into my life who seen straight through me. How was that possible? I don't know. I thought I was in my own little world and no one had a clue to the wonderland within me. Thank you New York. The rhythm, the movement, the heartbeat. You are near and dear to me. With every step I take, you are there. Where are you? I ask quite often. Then I remember where I last seen you. NYC...I heart you New York. You gave me permission to live out loud. Ain't no stopping us now...

Does He Have to Be 6'3" Without Kids?

Height 6'3”…What is the origin of this height requirement? Why, when women describe the perfect gentleman he's usually 6 feet, 3 inches? Am I included in this group? Well….But, I also know how life works. What’s the saying, “Want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans.” What is the perfect guy? Really? Okay, you want to go there right now? Is there such a thing as perfect? Don't we all know the typical response? He must be attractive, caring, loyal, employed, nice credit score, never married, no children, 6’3”, etc…Speaking of children. Someone on Twitter posted the requirements they were looking for in a man. I thought, “What if Twitter became a dating site? How interesting would that be?" It may even already be a dating site. I’ve told you in previous posts, I'm always in my own world. I often refer to myself as being out of the loop.

She listed on Twitter, she wanted a man without kids. Without kids? What does it mean if the man has kids? Does one say, “Love not today you have offspring.” How do I feel about this?  I never thought about a man with kids. I was too focused on the main thing, which is his relationship with God. That is what’s most important to me. Okay, since I'm putting myself out there. Here is my list, although I'm not sure I have a list. Because, I know how I am. Random suits me at times. I go from thinking Jude Law is cute in "The Holiday", to knowing Idris is the best thing since slice bread, and to thanking God that he created such men as Blair Underwood. Yes, God is good. LOL! Back to men. Oh wait, my list yes. So my list is basically someone who is me in the male form. God is first in their lives, well traveled, and intellectually stimulating. As far as his looks go, I'll know when I see him. Because some men possess a certain je ne sais quio and he could be 5'7”. So at the end of the day, height is really not that important.

My past boyfriends have all been 6'3”. It started in high school and that pretty much set the tone. But, the game changes in an instant. Once a Cuban guy sat next to me, played his guitar and knew everything about the Malcolm Gladwell book I was reading. That was all she wrote for that day. I'm pretty sure he was well below 6’3”. “No children.” Does it matter? I guess everyone has their preferences. Since children never crossed my mind. Someone came into my life with children from a previous marriage. I didn't mind. The more the merrier, as long as you have enough finances intact to provide optimal care for the children. Plus, I know he’ll be less likely to pressure me about having children in case I decide not to. Also, I don’t think it’s a big deal if the person is divorced. Life is a tricky thing sometimes. I prefer to be with someone who has experienced hardships before they come into my life. I know if I am going through something, they won’t be alarmed because they have been through their own tests and trials. I welcome an experienced man. Your past experiences are an indicator of how you will react in future circumstances. The point of this post is I love men, don't discriminate, and 6’3” don’t care.

"The Ring Didn't Mean a Thing"

“The Ring Didn't Mean a Thing”….ha ha. The ring means absolutely everything. I'm referring to the ring of your wake up call. Do you remember the end of “School Daze” when Dap yelled, “Wake up!” That is exactly what I experienced. Except the ring was my cell phone and the "wake up'' hadn't happened yet. I was in my own little world, as always. When life dropped by and quietly asked me, “Do you want to be a participant or a passerby?” I never refuse an awesome opportunity or back down from a challenge. So I responded, “Okay life, it's just me and you let's go.”

I went from serving snacks on a plane to being on stage, hitting marks, 5 teleprompters, performing monologues, and panel discussions. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. To be honest, I'm not sure if I've actually processed it to this day. One phone call resulted in my, “Wake up!” How did I go from lying in bed, receiving a phone call, to performing monologues and panel discussions? Every week, I was surrounded by people who were filled with passion and was exuberant about what they were doing. Every week….It's impossible to go back to being a passerby after such an extraordinary experience. Leave room in your life for serendipity. She knows when you're being open. Your inner self is always ready. Be on the lookout. Serendipity may just come knocking at your door.

In the field of observation, chance favors only the prepared mind. - Louis Pasteur

"Joy and Pain"

Joy and pain...."Joy and pain are like sunshine and rain." Just the thought of that song makes me smile. I heart you Maze and Frankie Beverly. Joy is defined as intense and especially ecstatic or exultant happiness. Wait..I have to read that again. Exultant happiness...Yes, that is intense. Joy what do you mean to me? Laughter, doing what I love to do, and being surrounded by people who uplift one another. When I hear this song it immediately takes me back to Houston. Every 4th of July since the beginning of time, "Joy and Pain" was the theme song for family gatherings. You knew every year what house you would be in, what family members would be there, and what was playing on the stereo. My mom would break out in modern dance moves like clockwork. Another relative would be consuming lots and lots of....beverages.  My uncle with his camcorder. Me and my cousins were forever having dance offs. We were actually paid for our dancing abilities. Music playing, people dancing, and joy in the air. It was like our own little world. You have to know where you come from, in order to know where you're going. Enjoy your day.

"Say Hello to My Little Friend"

Translation...Translation is defined as written communication in a second language, having the same meaning as the written communication in a first language....I'm still thinking about some vegan nachos I had 2 days ago. Translated as yummy or veganyo yummyo in Italiano! I'm pretty fond of Twitter. For so many reasons that it deserves it's own post titled, "Twitter and Why I Heart You." But, I'll save that for another day. Why did I mention Twitter? Oh yes, the other day someone "mentioned" me on Twitter and addressed me as Juan. Usually, people just use your Twitter handle alone and don't include your name. Seeing my name sparked me to respond in Spanish. I responded with two words, "de nada." Translated as "you're welcome" in English. This resulted in an entire dialogue in Spanish. It was a bit invigorating. It was different, my right brain was pumped, and I had taken a trip to Spain via one conversation on Twitter.

Do I speak Spanish? Poquito my friend.  Of course, I began taking it in 5th grade, high school, a stint in NYC, various trips to South America, and don't forget my bi-weekly Dominican hair salon visits. By the way, my name is Juan. That alone should give me automatic Spanish street cred. But, all I can truly say is "poquito." How did I carry on a conversation on Twitter? "Say hello to my little friend" in my Tony Montana voice...Google. That's right, Spanish translation via Google. Simply typed in my sentence in English and voila, it was perfectly translated. So why this long random story? An opportunity presented itself and I grabbed it by it's coattails. Always be ready for what life throws at you. Never back down from a challenge. You might just enjoy it. Your right brain will absolutely thank you. Are you prepared for those serendipitous moments that are on their way to you? Be open, be prepared and even if you're not prepared. Life will always throw you a net. You just have to pay attention and make sure you catch it.

The more you know who you are, and what you want, the less you let things upset you. - Lost in Translation

Living in the Moment

Life...It's always moving. Whether we want it to or not, it continues to move. We can lay in bed and refuse to participate. But, you know one thing about life. It doesn't need our permission to go on. So, what do we do? What do we do when things are not going the way we want them to? What do we do when we need a change to happen like yesterday?

There's something that I absolutely love. It is called living in the moment. In the moment everything is absolutely perfect. I know at this very moment, I am in the world of typing and expressing myself. That is it. Nothing else matters. Nothing else is allowed to enter my mind. Living in the moment. I like that. It causes you to be fully present. Half of you can't be in next week and the other half in last night's debate. No, all of you is right here right now.

Living in the moment. Yes, that's how I like to live. Try it. You may actually smell the roses, notice someone's smile, or hear your friend's complete conversation. While on your daily commute, you may even hear all of the notes in the wonderful classical music playing.  Living in the moment.

"Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift."  Oprah Winfrey

What Is a Gift?

Gift....What is a gift? A gift is defined as something that is bestowed voluntarily and without compensation. It is also defined as a special aptitude, ability, or power; talent. I'm in favor of the first definition. I have to repeat it...Something that is bestowed voluntarily and without compensation. Wow! Hold the phone. God in all of his wonderment has given us all a gift for FREE! We were all born with a sweet little treasure within us. How can we go through life and not open our treasure? How can we go through life and not reveal it to others? How can we go through life and not share our gift? Although, I'm not a fan of this word..But, I'll go ahead and say it. It's selfish. There, I said it...It is absolutely selfish of us to have a God given gift and keep it to ourselves for our own amusements and wonderment. To only reveal in the midst of our safe surroundings, like our house or to the captive audience of our dogs. Gift...Gift...Gift...Let's make this year all about giving. Giving of ourselves. Giving of what God has uniquely placed inside of each and every one of us. We can no longer keep it to ourselves. There is a saying, "Use it or lose it." You know what...I'm not buying that saying one bit. I'll tell you why. One name.....Ted Williams. End of story, look him up. What do I want to achieve for today's post? I want us to use our gifts.

Who Were You at 7 Years Old?

Remember when you were young and you played with all of your zeal. Never holding back. When I was young, I would charge my friends for things like riding my bike. I used to walk in my mom's hair salon and all of her clients always gave me money. I never left without a pocket full of money. I was a little business person before I was 7 years old. Where did that come from? I have no idea. I guess it goes back to the whole innate thing. You know, our innate talents and abilities. Innate is defined as existing in, belonging to, or determined by factors present in an individual from birth. From birth! That's a pretty strong definition. What were you doing when you were 7 years old? What were you passionate about? The answers to those questions may aid you on your passion filled journey.

There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.

"Don't Stop Believing"

Journey's song, "Don't Stop Believing." "Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world. She took the midnight train. Goin anywhere." Oh my gosh, I love that song! Journey..Journey..Journey. What journey are you on? The motherhood journey, school journey, employee journey.....What journey am I on? A passion filled journey. Filling my world up with all the passion that is on the inside of me. You see, I didn't particularly choose this journey. I must say that it chose me. Passion...It fills up inside of you until you're about to burst at the seams. You can try to ignore it but, it just gets a little louder each day. You can attempt to drown it out with busyness and preoccupation with other things. But, no it's not going anywhere.

My passion screamed so loud I had no choice, but to give it my attention. Some run to their passion. Some run as fast as they can from it. Me? Well, I guess I initially ran to it. I witnessed how powerful it was and decided, "You know what, I'm going to sit this one out. I'll be over here if you need me. Waaaay over here." Passion.....I love you. I couldn't imagine being on any other journey. You're filled with serendipitous moments, laughter, crying, and joy. I often dance like nobody's watching.  It's like my body is filled with so much excitement and joy. I just have to break out in a dance. My dog Dublin is used to it...He's cool with it. I rock out to old school music in my car on a daily basis. Oh and forget about it if the song, "On Broadway" by George Benson comes on the radio....It's a wrap son! Passion filled journey. That's my journey and I love every bit of it!

"Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like it's heaven on earth."

Just Listen To Your Heart

Sometimes, we think we have everything figured out. These are the moments when we must remain the most open to the possibilities of life. How do we know? How do we know this is what we are called to do? Is there a book detailing this is who you are, this is your purpose in life, and by the way you take these steps to achieve it? I don't ever recall seeing such a book.

We know. We all know. Just listen in the most quietest of moments. Just listen to your heart. Listen to your inner voice. It speaks to us in the most loudest moments of our lives and the most solitude filled moments of our lives. It speaks to us in the midst of the most rambunctious arguments and the most peace filled baths.

Our calling. Our purpose. Just the thought of such words tend to carry a heaviness with them....Especially when we try to figure everything out at once. The true beauty of life is we don't have to know how the story ends in order to begin. To begin our passion filled journey. We only need one thing. The willingness to begin. Sounds a bit simple doesn't it? In reality that is the most difficult part. The beginning....To take the first step leaving our comfort zone. That's what we must do.

"Follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

What Is Liberty?

Life..Love...Liberty...What is liberty? Liberty is the quality or state of being free. Wow! I like the way that sounds. It sounds almost as good as happiness. Liberty..Liberty...Liberty. Liberty to an individual is so much more than what one initially perceives. If you are constantly in a state of being free, you give permission to everyone around you to do the same. For mothers that means your children. For husbands that means your wives. For employers that means your employees. Do you see where I am going with this? It not only affects us. But, it can definitely affect generations after us. How awesome would it be to know that you broke the cycle in your family? You decided to go against the status quo. You decided, "Today I'm going to live in a state of freedom." Freedom to live a life filled with passion. I'm going to start my own business, take a dance class, eat healthy, mentor others, or be the biggest giver in my community. How awesome would that be? You have now just exposed your environment to passioned filled living. So what does this all mean? That we can start with ourselves. Based on one small change in our lives we can affect generations upon generations that come after us....Enjoy your day.

The Beat Goes On...

The beat goes on. The beat goes on...How do I know this to be true? Aren't we all living examples of the beat going on? We wake up every morning with a fresh slate. Ready to take on the world with every little step we take. We decide the first second of our day exactly what it will be like. Do you start by saying, "Today is a beautiful day" or do you begin with, "Oh crap, another day another dollar?" Give me 2 people side by side and I can tell you who is living a passion filled life and who isn't. Is it by their clothing? Um...no not really. Is it by their speech? Um...no not really. Is it by their smile? Bingo! You got it. A smile speaks to us in many ways. You can tell an authentic one versus a false one from a mile away. So it's your choice. To be your authentic self living in all of your authentic glory....or well you know opposite of that..Speaking of authenticity. What is authentic? It is defined as true to one's own personality, spirit, or character...Isn't that nice. To live life in a way of being true to ourself. Truth shall always set you free. Free to be who you were designed to be. We all have our own one of a kind footprint to make our mark in this world. It's up to you to leave it.

Oh Wait...Where Is My Love?

Good morning. Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.! "What a man, What a man, What a man, What a mighty good man." I'm smiling. Why did Salt-N-Pepa's song just come to my head? Let's see...men. How did I know one of my blog post would be about men? I celebrate you men. Without you...well would there be an us? That's something to think about. Men represent strength, security, offspring, and physicalities of life. When men come into my life. The birds sing, my heart skips a beat, and my smile gets larger.

Life with love is a bit cheerier. It adds a tad bit more pep in the step. Love, are you in my DNA? Of course you are! I enjoy you. No matter what happens, I always welcome you. Shouldn't we always have our arms open and ready for love. Does it know to come our way if they're closed? Sometimes, we focus so much on accomplishments and our 5 and 10 year plans, that we tend to place love on the back burner. Love should be right up there with everything else.

Sometimes, you get to a place in life and you're thinking, "Wow this is great." I'm accomplishing my dreams, I'm focused, and ready for the opportunities that are coming my way. But, oh wait....where is my love? The love that you share with the man of your dreams. Dreams should include love versus exclude it. It's great to have the career, car, house, etc....But, please don't forget about love! It makes your heart sing in a way that even the largest paycheck just can't quite achieve. Love...I like you love...In fact, I nub you love. In the great words of Eddie Murphy via SNL, "Wookin pa nub in all da wong paces..wookin pa nub." Oh my gosh, I'm getting silly...Have a wonderful MLK day!

"Black Girl in Paris"

"Langston was here. There is a black girl in Paris lying in a bed on the fifth floor of a hotel in the Latin Quarter."

I'm sitting up in my bed in the Sofitel Hotel. Yes! I finally made it to Paris. Our flight arrived a little after 11am Tuesday. By the time we were handed our keys and me situating in my room it was almost 2 o'clock. But, that didn't stop me from seeing the Eiffel Tower. I went straight out without taking a map. Needless to say I'm extremely exhausted. I'll finish writing about my solo day in Paris tomorrow. :-)

This was an excerpt from my journal written during my first trip to Paris, France. There is a book, "Black Girl in Paris" by Shay Youngblood, that I have read multiple times over the past years. I love this book for so many reasons. I will discuss the book and why I love it so much in my next blog entry. Enjoy your day!

What Is Right?

Happy Tuesday! I like the sound of that..What if we decide every day is a happy day? So, when things tend to tell us different. We can say, "Oh this is a happy day, that is not allowed." Good morning, I hope your day is as wonderful as you envisioned when you initially woke up. Sometimes, I think we place too much pressure on ourselves. You know...to do everything right. To look right, speak right, pray right, work right, etc... What is right? Who determines right? Wouldn't life be much more fulfilling if we determined what's right for us and decided to go forth in our own "rightness." These are just thoughts. Enjoy your day!

"What's Love Got To Do With It?"

I'm staring at the computer and the computer is staring at me. Kind of like in the Old Spice commercial when he says, "Look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me." I know pure randomness. But any hoot. Good morning let's rise and shine. Let's make this day the most awesome day it can possibly be. How can we take part in that. By being fully present and choosing not to be just a passerby. A passerby does just that....pass you by, not interacting, and not taking action. We want to take action every second of our lives. So those seconds add up to minutes and hours.  Free to be me. Free to be me... Free to be me....When we look in the mirror today, that should be our mantra. Nobody can be the best me other than me.

Tina Turner's song, "What's Love Got To Do With It?" remember that? Oh Tina, it has everything to do with it. But, in our case it's about love for ourselves and love of who we are. Truly being okay to share the gift of ourselves with others. How can you share that gift? By being who you were called to be and operating in your God given gifts and talents. What many fail to realize is that until you act on your talent or gift. Many others who have already been designed to aid you on your own path towards your dream. They don't have a job to do until you act on your dreams. You see we are all connected.

For me personally..I will give you an example. Last week I wanted my hair cut to make certain that it matched my headshot pictures. So, I went into 3 hair salons. One person frowned as she was eating chips saying, "I don't have time today." One person was completely puzzled and asked, "So you want your hair cut and then what? You getting a Perm?" My response,"No mam I just want my hair cut"...But, I finally drove down Crenshaw which is where my heart was telling me to go the entire time.

I went inside of a barbershop. A female barber volunteered to cut my hair. Her name is Ms. Rita. Ms. Rita put her heart and soul into cutting my hair. She was so sweet and nurturing. It was as if I was in my mom's hair salon and she was just cutting my hair on an average day. She sprayed something on my hair continually. I inquired about it because it smelled so good. She said, "I'll tell you about it once I finish your hair." At the end she said, "Ok, come let's go to the back so I can show you."  She held two products in her hand and informed me that she makes them herself. I was surprised and even looked at the barber next to us. I asked, "Ms. Rita you make these products yourself?" It was true, everyone agreed by nodding their heads. The ingredients were so pure...Aloe vera, rosemary, hamamelis, wheat germ oil, olive oil, etc..

Long story short..Why did I end up in her salon that day? I can't tell you the answer. Why did she put her heart and soul into cutting my hair and was the sweetest person I had met in LA? Why did she give me the products even before she realized I tipped her the most money I had in my possession? When you are truly operating in your talents people will show up in your life right in the nick of time to aid in moving you along your path...

"Run Forest, Run!"

Good morning, It's exactly 6:29 am on the West Coast. I pray that you have a wonderful day today. How are you going to live life for the next week? Are you going to follow your dreams with every bit of your being? Are you going to sit by and continue watching the buses pass you by? Do you remember the film "Jason's Lyrics?" Jada Pinkett's character watched many buses pass daily. She fantasized about them and where they were going.

I think we all have someone in our lives like that..It may even be us. Some people sit by and let life pass them by. They can tell you and recite every piece of art in the world. They can tell you about every parcel of delicacies they have seen on television. They can tell you how this person tried this and that person failed at that. They can even tell you how one day when everything lines up absolutely perfect...then yes..that is the day that they will pursue their dreams. Isn't that the case.

We only step out on faith when really there isn't any faith needed. If you could do it all yourself..Do you really need faith? "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of the things not seen." The key words being "hoped for." It begins with your hope. Not when you have complete certainty because you have all of the finances you need. If one thing I hope you get out of today's post is only this, then I am content for today. This right here, where you are in your life. This is it. This is your moment to face your fears as if your life depended on it. Run to them as Forest runs..."Run Forest, Run!"

HAPPINESS

Good morning and oh yes, today is a new day! A bright and beautiful day. I say this as I type at once again 5:11 am. God what is this all about? Okay, where shall I began today? Let's start with happiness. Why does it move me so? Why is it the bread to my butter (vegan)? Why is it the salt to my earth? Why is it the curl to my natural? Why is it the laughter to my smile?

Happiness. True happiness is when you can laugh, sing, and dance in the rain when the thunderstorms are telling you otherwise. Happiness is when you have absolutely no money in your pocket yet, you are able to uplift and encourage everyone around you. Happiness is knowing if today was "the" day... I know that I'm absolutely alright because I have chosen to live my life just the way I have always wanted to live it. On my own terms doing exactly what I was called to do.

For many times in one's life we look to everything else to provide happiness. Yet, we tend to overlook the very place that it truly is and is always located. That place is right inside of us. It speaks to us daily even when we "choose" to overlook it. It speaks to us when we are sleep and dreaming about who knows what. It speaks to us when we see that gentleman smiling our way and causes our hearts to skip a beat. Happiness...Oh, how I love you so...You are the Jones to my Love...

2 Weeks

The only thing I know is honesty. I don't know anything else...So one morning as I poured every part of my being into writing my morning pages. I say every part of my being because at that time I chose to shut out everything else. Meaning God, church....For 2 weeks of my life I didn't want to talk to him. That was difficult for me. He's my everything and the one that I discuss my highest highs and my lowest lows to. Without him where would my frustrations go? Would this mean that I would actually have to experience life on my own without him?

So this brings me to my November 2010 experience. After, I left work that day..I was frustrated. If you read yesterday's post then you know what I'm talking about. You see I always talk to God. But, that day I decided to scream to what many refer to as "the universe." My universe is God, angels, you know....all of my peeps that go to work on my behalf on a daily basis. Well, for the next 2 weeks thereafter. I stayed at home. Slept, ate, slept, and ate. That pretty much describes that time period. You see the only thing that really moves me is happiness. Some are moved by money. I am moved by happiness....I'll pick up where I left off next time. I'm off to living a sleepy life. It's 5:11 in the morning! Ciao!

The Dichotomy Between My Inner and Outer Self

Let's see where shall I began today. Oh yes, I left off discussing November 2010 and the profound effect the morning pages had a on me. Well I was at work. Meaning I was working in the industry of my choice. I was absolutely loving what I was doing. But, one day things began to change. I have no idea why. Well, I do know why, but that's a story for another day. After I left work one day. I was crying and sat in my car. I screamed, "I never want to work here again!" I drove home talking aloud my frustrations of what occurred at work.

You see my proclamation to the "universe" was a bit dramatic. Mainly because all of my jobs were for just one day at a time. So technically I would never work there again anyway. But, any hoot. I was really saying to the "universe" I want to be every bit of the person I am on the inside. There was a huge dichotomy between the person on the outside and the person on the inside.

The person on the outside lived a life of waiting for others to employ or choose her. The person on the inside was an entrepreneur, a traveler, dreamed of purchasing a home in Tuscany, prepares food from scratch of recipes from all over the world. The person inside is an award winning Actress, wears her hair natural, short, and curly, possesses the swagger that is undeniable even to the most well known model. The person on the inside is a filmmaker, clothing designer, artist that paints, sings, and dances to the beat of her own drum every second of the day. But, the person on the outside ate a whole lot of craft services, wore her hair straight, and slept when she wasn't working. You see the dichotomy here?!....I'll chat with you later. I'm off to living a passion filled life! Ciao!

"The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron

"Our creative dreams and yearnings come from a divine source. As we move toward our dreams, we move toward our divinity."

Hello Everyone!

It's pretty early in the morning here on the West Coast. I've been waking up daily around 6 am thanks to God's nudging. The quiet of the morning provides great time for reading the Word and journaling. Journaling is wonderful in so many ways. In the book, "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron she discusses what's referred to as the "morning pages." Morning pages are three pages of writing anything that comes to your head. This must be done daily. There isn't a right or wrong way to do them and that's what I like about them. "Pages" are meant to be simply, the act of moving the hand across the page and writing down whatever comes to mind."

I began doing the morning pages summer of 2010 while working on my lifestyle show pilot. I only did them briefly that summer. But, they had the most profound effect on me November 2010. I was in a transition period. My creativity was speaking loud within me and yet, I continued to ignore it. If one continues to ignore their inner callings or passions. The result of suppressing them will come out in other ways. Hence, alcoholism, excessive eating, anger management issues, etc... What does this mean in simple terms? I will let you ponder. I'll pick up where I left off tomorrow. Now, I'm off to living a passion filled life!

"What Symptoms To Expect When You Improve Your Diet"

The following excerpt was taken from an article titled:

WHAT SYMPTOMS TO EXPECT WHEN YOU IMPROVE YOUR DIET
by Dr. Stanley S. Bass

During the first phase (called catabolism), the accent is on elimination, or the breakdown of tissue. The body begins to clean house – in short, to remove the garbage deposited in all the tissues – everywhere! During this period, the body removes the ashes from the furnace preparatory to building a better fire. Here the accentuation is on removal of gross and immediate body obstructions.Wastes are discarded more rapidly than new tissue can be made from new food. This becomes evident as weight loss.

Returning to the symptoms, which occur on a superior nutritional program – people who have had recurring skin rashes or eruptions in the past will frequently tend to eliminate poisons and harmful drugs through the skin with new rashes or eruptions. If they go to a doctor who is not familiar with this aspect of nutrition, he will diagnose it as an allergy. They ask, “How come?” I’m eating better than I ever did before, and instead I’m getting worse.” They don’t understand that the body is retracting. The skin is becoming more alive and active. It’s throwing out poisons rapidly now that the body is rebuilding. Power and energy are saved from the difficult-to-digest meals which have been discontinued.

Headaches may occur at the beginning; fever and/or colds also may appear; the skin may breakout; there may be a short interval bowel sluggishness, occasional diarrhea, feelings of irritability, negativity or mental depression, frequent urination, etc., etc. However, the great majority of people find their reactions tolerable and are encouraged to bear with them because of the many improvements, which have already occurred and are becoming more evident with each day. This acts as an inspirational force to them.

The symptoms will vary according to the materials being discarded, the condition of the organs involved in the elimination and the amount of available energy. The more you rest and sleep when symptoms are present, the milder they are and the more quickly they are terminated. Be happy you are having symptoms. REALIZE DEEPLY that your body is becoming younger and healthier every day because you are throwing off more and more waste which would eventually have brought pain, disease and much suffering. Those with the most severe symptom reactions who follow through to their successful termination are thus avoiding some of the worst diseases which could eventually develop should they continue their careless eating habits.

Don’t expect to go on an ascending scale of quality – that improving your diet will make you feel better and better each day until you reach perfection. The body is cyclical in nature, and health returns in a series of gradually diminishing cycles.

I drink Herbalife's instant Green Tea.  It burns 80 calories per cup. It's pure and from whole leaf. No fillers, etc. It's easy to sprinkle on my water because it's instant. No boiling or waiting to cool down required.

WATER

DRINK DAILY

The amount of ounces should equal the half of your body weight divided by 2. (For example: 136 lbs/2 - Should drink 68 ounces)
Water does wonders for your weight loss journey.

Aloe benefits your digestive system. A healthy digestive system can help increase your metabolism, making it easier to lose weight or maintain healthy weight. It can also improve the absorption of nutrients and help to prevent many diseases.

MY HEALTH JOURNEY

I love my curves! Always have and always will! But, when I found out my Body Fat Percentage was 36%. I had to make a change. That basically meant almost half of my body was fat. I weighed 136lbs 12/14/10 and was a vegetarian.  I currently weigh 115 lbs 4/15/11 and follow a vegan diet. But, more importantly my Body Fat Percentage has decreased. Which is much more important than what the scale reflects. Here is a typical day for me and how I achieved my weight loss.

Breakfast – 7am

Herbalife's Healthy Meal Nutritional Shake w/ 1 cup of frozen fruit, Almond Milk (homemade), Chlorophyll

12 ounces of H20 w/ Herbalife Mango Aloe and Herbalife’s Green Tea (Burns 80 cal. Per cup), slice of organic lemon

Snack – 10 am

Handful of raw organic almonds, small organic apple
12 ounces of H20 w/ slice of organic lemon

Lunch - 1pm

Herbalife's Healthy Meal Nutritional Shake w/ 1 cup of frozen fruit, Almond Milk (homemade)

12 ounces of H20 w/slice of organic lemon

Gym

I hit the gym at least 4-5 days a week. 1 hr of Cardio and weights. 1 hour of Cardio burns my breakfast and lunch. (Usually 400 cal. Per hour)

Snack - 4pm

Organic Cucumber, Organic Peanut Butter  (sometimes I eat organic steel-cut oatmeal sweetened  with Agave, Peanut Butter or Almonds)

12 ounces of H20 w/slice of organic lemon

Dinner – 7pm

Usually a balance of protein and carbs. It really varies based on what I have a taste for...I eat sweet potatoes every day. Because I just love them. Sliced, cover with olive oil, curry powder and bake @ 350. Lots and lots of beans. I love beans! I’ve recently began preparing Kale, Collard Greens, and Daikon. They are just too full of nutrition not to include in your diet. I learned about these veggies in "The Kind Diet" book. Yes, I know we all know about greens. But, I just prepare them in a basic way and season to taste. Basically my dinner is a hodge podge. That’s why Herbalife works for me because I only have one meal to think about.

Note: I follow a vegan diet. So for all of you that love meat..Just add the meat of your choice to the mix. I hope you choose organic :-). Read Jillian's book and you'll understand why.

What I love about Herbalife is that it's quick, easy, and inexpensive. Everything is plant based and nutrient rich. You get a lot of nutrition without a lot of calories. I have amazing energy and I stay full throughout the day. Honestly, I am not even hungry when it's time for my snack 3 hours after breakfast and lunch. But, it's important to eat throughout the day to keep your metabolism going. The shakes are filled with vitamins and possess a great balance of proteins and carbs. Most importantly they keep you full and satisfied! People can pass a snicker's bar in front of me and I have no desire to eat. You actually have the energy and desire to work out! 1 hour on the treadmill (usually 400 cal for me) and that burns your breakfast and lunch calories. That's why it works!

Note: If you feel hungry after your snack. Eat more of it. When I began working out initially. The cucumber and almonds as a snack wasn’t doing it for me. So I began eating organic steel-cut oatmeal with peanut butter or almonds. Just listen to your body. It will let you know what to do.

I offer FREE customized nutritional plans to everyone. Doesn't matter what state you live in. You may also contact me if you're interested in purchasing Herbalife Products. I love them and that's why I'm sharing the information. I'm passionate about health and nutrition! I always have been since working out to Body Electric on PBS when I was young. LOL! The lines are getting too long for healing at my church and they're filled with African Americans. We have to take better care of our health. Weight loss isn't about vanity. It's about our health!  Please forward this posting to all of your friends and family. Feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions for future "Nutrition Tips."

Update 2/17/11 - I have began juicing daily with my Jack Lalanne Juicer. I juice kale, cucumbers, oranges, pineapple, carrots, kiwi, green apple, etc...I do this first thing in the morning. There's something about starting your day with raw, fresh, and organic nutrients. It's the best way for me to break-my-fast (breakfast).
