My 1st Short Story "Hansy" written 2/26/11

Hansy
Her name is Parker. She grew up in a town named Hansy. She always believed one day she would leave town and experience big city life. The kind with bright lights, culture, and songs written in the steps one take on the sidewalks. A city, that moves even when you’re not moving. But for now Hansy is where she is and by the looks of everyone else, Hansy is the only place she’ll ever be. Where should I start? Parker was always a bright child. Her momma told her, "You are my special one." She meant that too. Especially since there were no other ones.

Parker always smiled at the words of her momma. She looked onto her face and seen joy overridden by pain in the crevices of the curvature of her face. Parker knew one thing for sure. “I’m a princess with or without you,” she would scream from the rooftop of her home. Parker believed in her world she was a princess. Didn’t need anybody to tell her she was. She knew deep down inside that she was. What did she mean? Who Parker? She meant that no matter what bad or good things she experienced she was still a Princess. That was the one thing that no one could take from her.
"My, my, my," her daddy would say to her. He knew when he looked at her it caused him to think of his own pain. He was her daddy, but he wasn’t really her daddy. Parker’s mom, Mrs. Jolie had some moments in her life that she wasn’t always present. During one of those moments, Parker came about. Mrs. Jolie claims to not know who the daddy is, but she loves Mr. Sam for accepting Parker as his own. Mrs. Jolie was quite a looker in her heyday. She exemplified beauty. All the men loved Mrs. Jolie. She was a lady. She won beauty pageants. When men seen her, they only thought one thing, "She and I would have beautiful children together." That’s how beautiful Mrs. Jolie was. Oh she still has it, age has moved in on her. But, you can still see the traces. Mrs. Jolie hasn’t changed her movement one bit. She still walks as if she is walking across the stage in one of her beauty pageants.

You’re wondering what one of those moments were, aren’t you. No one knew what they were called in those days. All they knew is she would go from being sweet and smiling to having ridiculous energy. She would wander about for days and come back and everything would be alright. "Oh Mrs. Jolie, you sure are pretty,” that’s what people would say as she walked by. Not aloud, but to themselves. It was during one of these times that Parker crowned herself Princess and decided never to remove her crown. She knew it was her protection. She knew with this crown she would never experience one of those moments herself. Princesses act a certain way and it didn’t include wandering around for days.

Sometimes we believe we have to protect ourselves from the world. In reality we have to protect ourself from ourselves. How can that be? How are we equipped with the capacity to protect ourselves?
